Labrador Retriever Breed Information
Labrador Retrievers are one of the most popluar dog breeds in both the UK and North America. Their intelligence and ability to be trained has seen the breed be used as service dogs in a wide variety of uses. Many Labrador Retrievers are used as guide dogs for the blind, as hearing dogs for the deaf and they are used by the police and military.
The breed is thought to have originated in Newfoundland in Canada where they were taught to jump into the sea to retrieve fishing nets. Their ability to retrieve has been capitalised on with their training as gun dogs. They do like to have an active life and they enjoy human attention. Labrador Retriever's popularity as a family pet is due to the breed's good nature with people and particularly children.
Labrador Retrievers are seen as a very handsome dog breed, but there is much variation between their looks. Not only are there shorthaired and longhaired Labrador Retrievers but the colour varies from golden yellow through to black. As you can see on the website I have painted a wide range of Labrador Retriever pet portraits.
